Stoosbahn (Talstation)

Schwyz

The valley station of the Stoosbahn in Schlattli near Morschach marks the base of the world's steepest funicular railway. Rebuilt and reopened in 2017, the 1.7-kilometre line climbs 744 metres in elevation at a maximum gradient of 110 percent. Its cylindrical cabins rotate automatically throughout the ascent to keep passengers level, creating a distinctly disorienting first impression as the car tilts on entry. At the top lies the car-free Alpine village of Stoos at around 1,300 metres, with access to ski runs and hiking trails across the Muotatal region. The station is fully wheelchair accessible.
