Berlin Potsdamer Platz

Berlin

Berlin Potsdamer Platz station is an underground through-station in central Berlin, combining an S-Bahn platform and a regional rail hall in a single complex. The S-Bahn section dates to 1939, when it opened as part of the ambitious pre-war North-South tunnel project beneath the city. The regional rail platforms are considerably newer, opening in 2006 as part of the tunnel connecting Potsdamer Platz to the new Berlin Hauptbahnhof to the north. The station forms a key node in Berlin's rail network under the so-called Pilzkonzept (mushroom concept) for cross-city rail distribution. Full step-free access is available throughout.
