Blackfriars

Blackfriars is a combined national rail and London Underground station — served by the Circle and District lines — sitting on the north bank of the Thames at the edge of the City of London financial district. Its name derives from the Dominican friars (known as Black Friars for their black cloaks) who established a priory here in the 13th century before Henry VIII dissolved the monasteries. The station's overground platforms span the Thames itself, giving passengers direct river views — one of the few places in the London rail network where a train ride doubles as a riverside crossing.
