About Asuka

Asuka-kyō is a historic locality in Nara Prefecture on the island of Honshū, Japan, long associated with some of the country's earliest cultural heritage. The area is home to several notable sites, including the Kinkaku-Ukimidō, a stone gorinto (五輪塔), and the temples Kyōzenji, Shōkakuji, and Kōhenji. The Sanrō-Kane bell and the plum grove at Ki no Tsurayuki's ancestral home (紀貫之古里の梅) add further historical and literary depth to this quietly atmospheric destination.
