Vila do Maio, also known as Porto Inglês, is the main town and administrative centre of Maio, one of Cape Verde's quieter islands in the central Atlantic. Home to roughly 3,000 people, it has a relaxed, unhurried character typical of smaller Cape Verdean settlements. The nearby beaches of Praia da Vila and Praia de Boca Ribeira offer stretches of calm coastline, while the surrounding terrain is shaped by hills such as Monte Sombreiro, Monte Forte, Monte Vento, and Lomba da Vigia. The Igreja Nova Apostólica is among the town's local landmarks.
