About San Marino

San Marino is a landlocked microstate entirely surrounded by Italy, widely regarded as one of the world's oldest republics. Situated on Mount Titano in the Apennine Mountains, it covers roughly 61 square kilometres and has a population of around 34,000. The historic centre of the capital, also called San Marino, along with Monte Titano, is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The country is governed by two Captains Regent and attracts visitors with its well-preserved medieval architecture, three distinctive hilltop towers, and its unique constitutional history.
