German Bratwurst Museum

The 1. Deutsches Bratwurstmuseum in Mühlhausen, Thuringia, is entirely devoted to the region's most beloved culinary institution: the Thüringer Rostbratwurst. First opened in 2006 near Arnstadt as a combination theme park and museum, it closed in 2020 and reopened at a new location in Mühlhausen in August 2023. Exhibits trace the sausage's history from its earliest medieval documentation in Thuringian records through to modern grilling culture, with interactive displays, record attempts, and the long-running debate over the "authentic" recipe.
