Alter Botanischer Garten

The Alter Botanischer Garten occupies five hectares in the northeastern corner of Göttingen's medieval inner city and functions as a living research collection of the Georg-August-Universität, managed by the Albrecht-von-Haller-Institut für Pflanzenwissenschaften. Founded in 1736, it bears the name of the Swiss polymath Albrecht von Haller, who worked in Göttingen during the Enlightenment and shaped early systematic botany. The garden holds more than 12,000 plant species across outdoor beds, rock gardens, and heated glasshouses. Admission is free; opening hours run from 8 am, closing at 4 pm in winter and 6:30 pm in summer.
