Busiris
Abu Sir Bana is a small village in the Nile Delta built over the ancient Egyptian city of Djedu — known to the Greeks as Busiris — whose physical remains are almost entirely buried beneath the modern settlement. The city's name derives from the Djed pillar, the hieroglyphic symbol of the god Osiris, and Busiris was venerated throughout antiquity as the primary cult center of Osiris, believed to be the site where his remains were interred. No standing ancient structures survive above ground today; the village sits roughly 5.5 kilometers south of Samannud on the western bank of the Damietta branch of the Nile. The site holds academic significance for Egyptologists studying Osirian religion and Delta settlement, but offers little in the way of developed visitor infrastructure.
