Älvsborgsbron

Älvsborgsbron is a suspension bridge spanning the entrance to Gothenburg's harbour, crossing the Göta älv at a total length of 933 metres with a main span of 418 metres. Its two 107-metre steel pylons carry six traffic lanes while maintaining a 45-metre clearance for vessels entering Scandinavia's third-largest port — a clearance requirement that shaped the entire design. Engineered by Sven Olof Asplund, it was inaugurated in 1966 by then-Transport Minister Olof Palme, years before he became Sweden's Prime Minister. The bridge offers unobstructed views of the harbour mouth, incoming cargo ships, and the Gothenburg skyline, particularly striking at dusk.
