Barken Viking

The Viking is a steel four-masted barque launched in 1906 and still the largest windjammer ever built in Scandinavia. Originally constructed for a Danish shipping company as a sail training vessel, she put generations of officers through their paces before eventually being moored permanently in Gothenburg harbour. At roughly 100 metres in length, her four towering masts are unmistakable from the quayside. She now functions as a museum ship and floating restaurant, where guests can dine aboard and walk the largely original decks — an unusually tangible encounter with the twilight era of commercial sail.
