Alexandre Alberto da Rocha Serpa Pinto

A monument to Alexandre Alberto da Rocha de Serpa Pinto (1846–1900), a Portuguese explorer and colonial official who completed one of the first recorded crossings of the African continent in the 1870s. Located in São Filipe on the island of Fogo, the memorial reflects the lingering traces of Portuguese colonial presence in Cape Verde. Little public documentation exists about the monument's physical form or exact placement — best explored in person.
