Alte Grieser Pfarrkirche

The Old Parish Church of Gries, dedicated to Our Lady, is a late Gothic place of worship nestled at the foot of the Guntschnaber hill in the Gries-Quirein district of Bolzano. Until 1788 it served as the parish church of Gries, then an independent municipality, before the village was absorbed into Bolzano and a new church assumed the parish role. The interior holds a notable collection of late medieval art treasures — altarpieces and devotional works that reflect the village's former status as an independent ecclesiastical centre. Together with its surrounding historic cemetery, the church has been a listed monument since 1977. Today it offers a rare pocket of monumental quiet within a busy city neighbourhood, largely undiscovered by mainstream tourism.
