Praděd, known in German as Altvater, is the highest peak in the Jeseníky (Altvater) mountain range at 1,492 metres, making it the highest point in Moravia and Upper Silesia. The summit has served as a regional landmark for centuries, and in the 1970s a striking futuristic telecommunications tower was erected there, visible from great distances across the surrounding plateaus. On clear days the views from the top sweep across Moravia, Silesia, and Bohemia in a sweeping three-region panorama. Well-marked hiking trails approach from multiple directions, making a day ascent achievable for experienced walkers.
