Amir Timur Square

Amir Timur Square is the leafy centerpiece of Uzbekistan's capital Tashkent, laid out in 1882 during Russian imperial rule when it was known as Konstantin Square and served as a focal point of the newly reordered colonial city. After Uzbek independence in 1991, it was renamed in honor of Timur — the 14th-century Central Asian conqueror and founder of the Timurid Empire — and a prominent equestrian statue of him was installed at its center. The park is open around the clock and draws families and strollers throughout the day, particularly in the evenings when the grounds are illuminated and the surrounding boulevard slows to a more relaxed pace.
