Andriaca

Andriaca was the principal harbour of ancient Myra in Lycia, situated roughly five kilometres southwest of modern Kale (Demre) at the mouth of the Andriakos river on Turkey's Mediterranean coast. During the Roman period it ranked among the key transit points on eastern Mediterranean trade routes; Emperor Hadrian commissioned a grand imperial granary here in the 2nd century AD, parts of which still stand today. River silting gradually choked the harbour basin through the medieval period, leaving what was once a busy commercial port buried beneath marshland — an eerie reversal that makes the site almost unrecognisable as a former seaport. Since 2005, a team from the Austrian Archaeological Institute has been conducting systematic excavations, progressively uncovering the layout of the ancient harbour district.
