Angels Flight

Angels Flight is a funicular railway opened in 1901 that links Bunker Hill in Downtown Los Angeles to Hill Street, covering 30 meters of elevation across just 91 meters of track. When it opened it was the shortest railway in the world. The two wooden cars, named Olivet and Sinai, operate as a counterweighted pair and originally cost one cent per ride. After multiple closures and a fatal 2001 accident, the line returned to service in 2017. The upper station with its 15-meter Beaux-Arts arch is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A ride now costs one dollar and ends directly outside Grand Central Market.
