Angelus Temple

Angelus Temple is a 1923 megachurch in the Echo Park district of Los Angeles and home base of the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel. Pentecostal preacher Aimee Semple McPherson commissioned the building, with its unusual round plan and unreinforced concrete dome, from architects Albert R. Walker and Percy A. Eisen; at the time the dome was the second largest in the US after the one in Salt Lake City. McPherson broadcast the first religious radio programs in the US from here and, with over 5,300 seats, is regarded as the founder of the modern megachurch. The temple was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1992. Services are still held in several languages and visitors can see the lobby with McPherson's original office.
