Arktisch-Alpiner-Garten

The Arktisch-Alpiner Garten in Chemnitz is a specialist botanical garden on Schmidt-Rottluff-Straße, about 5 km north of the city centre. Covering just 2,000 m², it displays around 4,000 plant species from arctic and alpine regions worldwide — a remarkable concentration for a Central European garden. The collection is arranged by geographic, ecological, and phytosociological criteria, with particular depth in willows (Salix), heathland plants (Ericaceae), ferns, and the high-mountain flora of New Zealand — the last of which is exceptionally rare in German botanical collections. The compact, quietly curated setting makes it a rewarding stop for botanists and curious visitors alike.
