Asperg is a small town in the Strohgäu region at the foot of the Hohenasperg hill, located in Ludwigsburg district north of Stuttgart. Since 2026 it officially carries the designation "Keltenstadt" (Celtic town), referencing the area's pre-historic settlement — the Hohenasperg itself served as a significant princely seat during the Hallstatt period. The town is best known regionally for the Hohenasperg fortress, which later served as a prison. As a standalone destination, Asperg functions primarily as a quiet residential town within the Stuttgart metropolitan area.
