Auditorio Alfredo Kraus

The Auditorio Alfredo Kraus rises like a contemporary lighthouse at the northern end of Playa de Las Canteras in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Designed by Catalan architect Óscar Tusquets and inaugurated on 5 December 1997, the postmodern concrete-and-glass structure was conceived as an architectural guardian of the bay. It honours Las Palmas-born tenor Alfredo Kraus (1927–1999), one of the finest Belcanto voices of the 20th century. The building's signature feature is a roughly 100 m² floor-to-ceiling window behind the orchestra in the main hall, giving concert-goers an unobstructed view of the Atlantic during performances — one of the most distinctive staging environments in Europe. The programme covers symphonic concerts, chamber music, and opera, with acoustics widely considered among Spain's finest.
