A16 motorway
The A16 motorway, known as the Transjurane, is an 84 km national route that crosses the Swiss Jura mountains, connecting the canton of Jura to the Swiss Mittelland and linking the Swiss motorway network to the French one. Its completion in spring 2017 ended a construction period spanning several decades, making it one of Switzerland's most complex road infrastructure projects — the entirely grade-separated route through the Jura required extensive tunnelling and viaduct construction. Depending on the section, the road alternates between four-lane motorway and two-lane expressway standard.
