Avram Iancu 1824-1872

This artwork in Sibiu commemorates Avram Iancu (1824–1872), a Transylvanian Romanian lawyer and revolutionary who led armed resistance against Habsburg rule during the 1848 revolution. Iancu organized mountain guerrilla campaigns in the Carpathians and remains a national hero in Romania. The monument stands as a marker of Transylvanian Romanian identity in a city whose Saxon-German past and Romanian present continue to coexist visibly.
