ေရႊသာေလ်ာင္း ဘုရား

The Shwethalyaung Buddha is one of the largest reclining Buddha figures in the world, stretching nearly 55 metres and depicting the Buddha in the moment before his final entry into Nirvana. It was built in 994 CE under Mon King Migadepa, then lost beneath jungle overgrowth after Bago was sacked in the 18th century — only to be rediscovered in 1881 by British engineers laying a railway line. The gilded statue rests under an open pavilion, its vast, intricately painted eyes giving the figure an air of serene otherworldliness. The surrounding temple compound is an active place of worship, with monks and devotees offering flowers and candles throughout the day.
