Hua Lamphong railway station

Bangkok's grand 1916 terminus – a vaulted glass-and-steel hall now transitioning into a railway museum.

Hua Lamphong station is one of the most architecturally striking buildings in Bangkok. Completed in 1916 and designed by Italian and German architects, its vaulted steel-and-glass roof, Corinthian columns and stained-glass windows made it a landmark of the early modern Thai state. For decades it was the country's busiest terminus, the starting point for overnight trains to Chiang Mai, the Southern Line and the northeast. Since 2023 the newly opened Bang Sue Grand Station has taken over most services, and Hua Lamphong is gradually being reimagined as a railway museum and cultural venue – making now a good time to visit before the transformation is complete.
