Bjørnfjell station

Bjørnfjell station sits at 761 metres above sea level at the foot of the mountain of the same name, roughly 12 kilometres east of Narvik and over 200 kilometres above the Arctic Circle. Opened in 1925 as part of the Ofoten Railway — the line built to haul Swedish iron ore from Kiruna down to Narvik's ice-free harbour — it sits among the highest stops on the route. The modest station building marks the transition between the Norwegian coastal terrain and the Swedish high plateau. Those who alight here find stark Arctic openness: flat fell landscape, sparse vegetation, and on clear days a sweeping view toward the Narvik valley below.
