Haltern am See station

Haltern am See station sits at kilometre 26.0 on the Wanne-Eickel to Hamburg main line and was historically the departure point for the branch line toward Venlo in the Netherlands. As part of the Hamburg-Venlo Railway, international express trains called here before the Second World War. Until around the turn of the millennium the station also served as a freight pre-sorting node for trains heading into the Ruhr region. Today it functions as an ordinary regional rail stop with no notable tourist or architectural significance.
