Kuala Lumpur railway station

Kuala Lumpur railway station opened in 1886 under British colonial rule and stands as one of Southeast Asia's most distinctive examples of Mughal Revival architecture. Its whitewashed arches, minarets, and cupola towers reflect the colonial administration's habit of blending Indian Mughal motifs with European civic building types — a style also seen in other KL landmarks of the same era. For nearly a century it served as the city's primary rail hub, until KL Sentral opened in 2001 and absorbed most intercity and commuter traffic. The building now survives largely outside active long-distance rail operations, functioning principally as an architectural document of late 19th-century Kuala Lumpur.
