Rijeka railway station

Rijeka railway station opened in 1873 during the Habsburg period, when the city — then known as Fiume — was a contested commercial hub of the Austro-Hungarian littoral. Its classicist station building reflects the architectural ambitions of the era's rail expansion along the northern Adriatic coast. Unusually, the station sits directly beside the port, placing rail and maritime traffic within steps of each other. Today it is operated by Croatian Railways (HŽ) and remains a functional transit point rather than a visitor destination in its own right.
