Monument to the Bandeiras

The Monumento às Bandeiras at the entrance to Ibirapuera Park is a monumental granite sculpture by Italian-Brazilian sculptor Victor Brecheret. Commissioned in 1921 and completed in 1954, it commemorates the Bandeirantes — the 17th-century expeditionary groups who, under Portuguese colonial authority, pushed into Brazil's interior. The Art Deco monument is a protected heritage site of the city of São Paulo.
