Casa das Rosas

Casa das Rosas is a literary museum and cultural centre at Avenida Paulista 37 in Sao Paulo, housed in one of the last surviving 1930s mansions on the avenue. Architect Ramos de Azevedo Junior designed the building in 1935 in a neoclassical style with the broad rose garden that gives the house its name. Since 2004 the villa has served as the Espaco Haroldo de Campos de Poesia e Literatura, holding the roughly 22,000-volume private library of the concrete poet Haroldo de Campos (1929-2003) and rotating exhibitions on Brazilian and international poetry. Admission is free; visitors can attend readings and workshops, and the garden offers an unusual green pause right on the high-rise canyon of Avenida Paulista.
