Also known as: Basilica of Jesus
The Basilica of Jesús de Medinaceli in Madrid is home to one of Spain's most venerated images of Christ — a 17th-century Baroque statue legendarily ransomed from North African pirates in 1682. Every Good Friday, hundreds of thousands of Madrileños queue for hours to touch the statue's feet and make a wish, creating one of the country's largest annual religious gatherings. A place of intensely alive popular faith right in the heart of the capital.
