St. Lawrence Shrine

The Basilica of St. Lawrence in Attur near Karkala is a Roman Catholic minor basilica in the Diocese of Udupi, Karnataka, consecrated in 1901 and dedicated to St. Lawrence of Rome, one of the early Church's most venerated martyrs. The shrine has long been a focal point of pilgrimage in coastal Karnataka, with a strong tradition of attributed miracles drawing devotees from across the region. Its annual festival, Attur Jatre, brings together Catholic pilgrimage practice with the communal celebration typical of South Indian regional traditions.
