Bathurst Lighthouse

Bathurst Lighthouse stands at Bathurst Point on the northeastern tip of Rottnest Island, roughly 18 kilometres off the coast of Perth, and was commissioned in 1900 following a string of maritime disasters in the area — most notably the wreck of the City of York on the island's reefs in 1899. Built from local limestone, the compact tower is one of two lighthouses on Rottnest Island and guards the northern approach to the Fremantle shipping channel. Today it sits at the end of a short coastal walk on the largely car-free island, offering open views across the Indian Ocean toward the same rock formations that once made this stretch of water so treacherous for passing vessels.
