Bhuvanagiri Fort

Bhongir Fort sits atop a single massive granite monolith near the town of Bhuvanagiri in Telangana, roughly 50 kilometres east of Hyderabad. The hillfort dates to the 10th or 11th century, when the Western Chalukyas constructed it as a near-impregnable stronghold, exploiting the sheer natural rock faces as its primary defense. It later passed through the hands of the Kakatiya rulers and various Deccan sultanates, each leaving traces in the surviving gateworks and ramparts. Reaching the summit involves a steep climb over rock-cut steps and narrow ledges — the reward is a sweeping view across the Deccan plateau. The partially ruined walls and carved rock surfaces give the site a quietly dramatic character that few fortresses in the region can match.
