Bibliothèque Méjanes

The Bibliothèque Méjanes is the municipal public library of Aix-en-Provence and has served since 1993 as the anchor of the city's Cité du Livre cultural complex. Founded in 1810 within Aix's Hôtel de Ville, it relocated in 1989 to a repurposed match factory — a striking industrial conversion that preserved the building's raw bones while housing one of southern France's most important public collections. The library is also home to the Fondation Saint-John Perse, dedicated to the archives of the Nobel Prize-winning poet, and runs a dedicated screening room for independent cinema. It is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 to 19:00, with free Wi-Fi throughout.
