Bok Tower Gardens

Bok Tower Gardens in Lake Wales, Florida, pair a soaring Neo-Gothic carillon tower built in the late 1920s with a sprawling botanical landscape designed by Frederick Law Olmsted Jr. The tower was gifted to the American people by Dutch-American publisher and Pulitzer Prize-winner Edward Bok, and dedicated by President Calvin Coolidge in 1929. Architect Milton Medary clad the structure in Florida coquina limestone and marble, creating one of the state's most distinctive landmarks. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the estate expanded in 1970 to include Pinewood Estate, a 1930s Mediterranean Revival manor on the grounds. Daily carillon concerts ring out from the 60-bell tower — one of the finest instruments of its kind in the country — across gardens filled with azaleas, ferns, and native Florida wildlife.
