Boniswiler Ried

The Boniswiler-Seenger Ried is a nationally protected wetland on the eastern shore of Lake Hallwil in the Swiss canton of Aargau. The reserve holds a rare triple designation: it appears in Switzerland's federal inventory of lowland fens, the federal inventory of amphibian breeding sites, and is protected under the Smaragd Network established by the Bern Convention — a pan-European system for priority habitats. Extensive reed beds and waterlogged meadows provide refuge for amphibians and wetland birds. Walking the lakeshore paths offers an unusually quiet natural landscape; patient visitors may spot kingfishers, bitterns, or rare frog species with little competition from tourist crowds.
