Borough Hill

Borough Hill is a broad ridge east of Daventry in Northamptonshire, best known as the former site of the BBC Daventry transmitter station. From 1925 until its final closure in 1992, the station broadcast long-, medium- and shortwave signals across Europe and beyond — Daventry was chosen for its central position roughly 50 kilometres south-east of Birmingham. The call signal 'Daventry calling the world' became a minor emblem of early British international broadcasting. Today the masts are long gone, and sheep graze the open grassland along the ridge. Walkers come for the elevated footpaths and wide views across the Midlands countryside.
