Astwell Castle

Astwell Castle is a medieval manor house with a surviving gatehouse tower, set in open countryside roughly 2.4 km southwest of the village of Wappenham in Northamptonshire. English Heritage has listed it at Grade II* — a designation reserved for particularly important structures that fall just below the top tier. Its ownership and building history are poorly documented, making the tower one of the more quietly enigmatic medieval remains in the region. The remote setting gives it the feel of a half-forgotten ruin rather than a curated heritage site, which is much of its appeal for those who seek it out.
