Bridlington Priory Church
Bridlington Priory Church — formally the Priory Church of St. Mary — is a former Augustinian priory church in the East Riding of Yorkshire, founded around 1113 and still active today as an Anglican parish church. The surviving nave represents only a portion of the original monastic complex: when Henry VIII dissolved the monasteries in the 16th century, the cloister buildings were demolished, but the nave was spared because the local congregation continued to worship there — a fate shared by only a handful of English priory churches. Listed as a Grade I building since 1951 and part of the Major Churches Network, the structure is one of the more intact examples of medieval ecclesiastical architecture in northern England. Visitors encounter a working church layered with nearly nine centuries of religious life, from Augustinian canons to the present Anglican parish.
