Bled Castle

Bled Castle rises dramatically on a 139-metre sheer cliff above Lake Bled and is considered Slovenia's oldest castle, with documentary records tracing it to the early 11th century when it served as a seat of the Bishops of Brixen. The complex reflects successive Gothic and Renaissance building phases layered over its medieval core, and today operates as an outpost of the Slovenian National Museum, housing permanent exhibitions on castle history, medieval crafts, and Slovenian cultural heritage. The clifftop plateau delivers one of Slovenia's most celebrated viewpoints: the lake, its iconic island church, and the Julian Alps framed in a single sweep. Open daily 8am–8pm (April–October), entrance fee required.
