The Calestienne is a narrow limestone belt running along the Meuse valley from southern Belgium into the French border area around Vireux-Molhain, supporting a distinctive calcareous grassland habitat rare in this part of northwest Europe. The site is managed by the Cercles des Naturalistes de Belgique, a naturalist association dedicated to documenting and conserving the area's specialist chalk flora and fauna. Visitors can expect orchid-rich meadows, thermophilous insects, and quiet nature trails well off the main Ardennes tourist circuit.
