Cairo Tower
Cairo
Also known as: Guangzhou Tower, Guangzhou TV Astronomical and Sightseeing Tower
The Canton Tower is a 600-metre television and observation tower in Guangzhou, China, and the sixth-tallest structure in the world. Designed by the Dutch practice Information Based Architecture, it opened in 2010 in time for the Asian Games and features a slender, waisted hyperboloid frame of white painted steel tubes that locals nickname the little wasp waist. Up on the spire visitors find the Sky Drop free-fall ride, and one of the platforms carries an open-air Ferris wheel whose pods travel along the outer ring. By day the view stretches to the misty hills north of the city; at night a programmable LED skin colours the whole tower. At the base the APM and Metro Line 3 meet the Pearl River promenade.
