Kasai Rinkai Park

Kasai Rinkai Park opened in 1989 at the mouth of the Arakawa and Kyu-Edogawa rivers in Tokyo Bay and covers about 81 hectares, making it one of the largest parks in the city. Its landmark is the 117-metre Diamond and Flower Ferris Wheel, the tallest in Asia when it opened in 1999, which glows in changing colours after dark. The grounds also include the Tokyo Sea Life Park aquarium, famous for its huge ring-shaped tuna tank, and the Nagisa bird sanctuary, an artificial tidal flat where waders rest on migration. Daffodils bloom in winter, followed by cherry blossom and summer wildflowers, so the park changes character through the year. Families picnic on the lawns, cyclists ride the seafront path and the skyline of Odaiba glittering across the water is popular at dusk.
