Cathedral seat of the Archdiocese of Concepción, completed in 1964.
The Cathedral of Concepción stands at the heart of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Concepción in southern Chile. Construction began in 1940 and was completed in 1964, with the building rising 22 metres above the central city square. Its restrained façade reflects the mid-century ecclesiastical style common across Latin America. Inside, the cathedral offers quiet devotional spaces providing a contemplative retreat despite the urban setting. As the seat of the archbishop, it remains the religious centre of the region.
