Chiesa di San Pietro Martire (Murano)

Former Dominican church on Murano with Renaissance masterworks including a Giovanni Bellini altarpiece — less visited than the island's famous glass basilica.

San Pietro Martire is one of two parish churches on the glassmaking island of Murano, originating from a 14th-century Dominican monastery. The monastery was dissolved in 1806 under Napoleonic rule, but the church survived and now houses an important collection of Venetian art. Highlights include an altarpiece by Giovanni Bellini and works by Tintoretto. Compared to Murano's other parish church, the Basilica dei Santi Maria e Donato, San Pietro Martire has a more intimate atmosphere with fewer crowds.
