Renaissance church in Dorsoduro housing the largest Veronese fresco cycle – Veronese is buried here
The church of San Sebastiano in Venice's sestiere of Dorsoduro is one of the city's most important churches for art history. Paolo Veronese left his most extensive body of work here: ceiling paintings, choir paintings, organ shutters, and altarpieces together form one of the most complete fresco programmes in the Venetian Renaissance. Veronese himself was buried here in 1588 at his own request – his gravestone lies before the side altar. The church also contains sculptures by Alessandro Vittoria and works by Tintoretto and Titian. As one of Venice's five votive churches, it was built after a plague outbreak and has been part of the Chorus Association since 2016.
