Dat ole Hus

Uetersen

Volunteer-run local history museum in Schleswig-Holstein with recreated farmhouse interiors from the 18th–20th century.

Dat ole Hus – Low German for "The Old House" – is a small local history museum in the village of Bünzen, part of the municipality of Aukrug in Schleswig-Holstein. Volunteers run it and have recreated the living quarters of a north German farmstead as they would have appeared between the 18th and early 20th centuries: kitchen, sleeping chamber, tools and everyday implements arranged as if the occupants just stepped out. The name itself is a deliberate choice – keeping the Low German form was a quiet gesture toward a regional language already fading from daily life. Today the museum sits well off the tourist trail, offering an honest glimpse of rural northern German life without embellishment.
