Deutsche Bank Building

The Deutsche Bank Building at 130 Liberty Street in Lower Manhattan was a 39-storey skyscraper completed in 1973, sitting directly across from the World Trade Center in the Financial District. On 11 September 2001 the building was severely damaged by falling debris and contaminated with asbestos and human remains. After years of disputes over remediation versus demolition, controlled deconstruction began in 2007 and lasted until 2011, marked by a fatal fire that killed two firefighters. Liberty Park and the rebuilt WTC complex now occupy the site; the building no longer exists.
